Re-Claiming credit card PPI

Some advice would be great. . . .
I have had a credit card with Halifax for about 8 years, to which I cancelled the PPI at the begining of the year. This application was done for me in branch, and I think I just had to sign.
My question is, would I be able to claim for the whole 8 years or would it be only as far back as 6 years - and what is the best way to re-claim. I have all my statements, should I just add up what I have paid over the years and add 8%.

now you can claim for the full 8 years the 6 year thing come from banks only having to hold your records for 6 years after the account has been closed. Good luck

Hi There
I claimed back PPI on a Barclaycard going back to 1991. Just over £9000 so good luck.:mad:0 -
Hi there
As Andy says.
And if they still hold your info for longer than 6 years that's a bonus.
To reclaim instead of writing a letter, complete the newish questionnaires issued by the Financial ombudsman service (FOS), remember to save a copy as well and sent the questionnaire to the ones who are responsible for setting up the finance, they have 8 week in full to respond.
You will find this FOS questionnaire further down the page on the link below as stage one.

If you have no printing facilities, you can contact the FOS for the questionnaire if you want to.

They will arrange to send in the post to you.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Hello,
Just write to Halifax's central office with what you have written there.
They will call you within 2-4 days asking for further information (this is not to catch you out it is essentially to find out all the information that is upon that questionnaire). Halifax are ahead of 8 weeks and keep credit card records for longer than 6 years.
If you applied for this card in branch as you said you will likely get a response very quickly.
Good luck :-)0 -
Should I work out what I have paid out in PPI and tell Halifax, or should I send them copies of all my statements?0

Hi there
There is no harm in sending "copies" to them if you want to, but you do not have to give them any figures, they should have the info, and you can also request when all resolved, for a detailed written breakdown.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Hi Di,
appreciate your assistance if possible. I had 3 products with Barclays since the early nineties. At the moment the FOS has managed to secure ppi claims for me for a loan that was paid off in 2001, a Visa credit card (opened in 1994 and I cleared and cancelled in 2008). However, the sting in the tail is that I had a Mastercard with them with a large balance which again I cleared and cancelled in 2008 (and due to the amount at the time had a ridiculous amount of ppi on it. Barclays are now saying that they can find no evidence of this card going back to 1993 which is ridiculous (but they can find the other card from 1994! - of course for a much smaller amount of ppi).
I have gone back to them to complain again as I feel that they are being obstructive and dishonest, any suggestions? Also, from a phone call to them it was suggested to me that there was a change in the law between 1993 and 1994 which seems absolute nonsense!

Charlie,
Hi Charlie.
I am not sure on the change of the law between 1993 and 1994, I have not heard of this before.
I know what your saying, that they found evidence from one and not the other with them being accounts within a year of each other.
I understand if you request for a Subject access request (SAR) they are to provide details going back the last 6 years, anything beyond that is a bonus really, but it is baffling for you as they have evidence of one and not the other.
Saying that many have still be lucky to have receive info/details going back into the 90's.
Have you tried requesting a SAR at all by any chance?
You never know something may come back in relation to that particular claim, but do not rely on it.
For more on a SAR there is a template letter for this below link, you have to provide £10 cheque or postal order and they have 40 calendar days to comply.

apologies if you have already done this, but otherwise the Information Commissioners office (ICO) may be able to give advice on this matter, and see what they have to say.
https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx
Have you anything in paperwork in relation to that actual account at all, which may still help your case?
Maybe someone else who have dealt with these will have the right answers for you, and will post up, good luck, please keep us posted.
Cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Just to update people, I called up Halifax about my credit card, the adviser was a little off with me, and said that I wouldn't be able to claim the PPI back as I had cancelled this at the begining of the year. As I wanted to make a claim they referred it to the complaints department. Within 3 weeks a letter came back with a settlement figure - which I was very happy with! :-)0
