How to find out crime rates?

mrcol1000 those sites are really useful, wish we had a local one like the West Yorkshire one.0

Apparently, whever the local police station is will have the highest crime rate. This is due to the fact that the place of arrest is quite often logged as the police station. Stats can be very misleading.0

a really nice looking maisonette above the shops on the main high street in her town. We know the area quite well, there are 2 pubs within a stones throw and a late-night tesco, so it is a busy road, and a typical hang-out for kids.
Don't bother with crime rates, just tell your sister to find somewhere else, it's a far from ideal location. It can be very noisy and disruptive without any actual crime being committed. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I think you've pretty much answered your own question.Your tax bill is the penalty you pay for not helping the right candidates get into office.:D0 -
I know it sounds bad, but I have lived on a similar street the other side of the country and had no problems. Perhaps they all disperse after pub closing, and I suppose it also depends how well sound proofed the windows are.0

Would your Sister really want to set up home on the strenth of a Maybe? Its the Kids hanging about that would deter me..Your tax bill is the penalty you pay for not helping the right candidates get into office.:D0 -
As it's an area lots shops, perhaps the stats will appear really high because of shop-lifting which won't affect the resident directly but will make theft related crime stats high.0
-
The biggest concern is car crime, with kids hanging around the shops at night, they may wander into the car park behind the flats and chance their luck there.
ILW and Jowo - good points.
Would it be possible to phone the local police station and ask their opinion do you think? Obviously these kind of crimes can happen anywhere at any time, but I wouldn't want her moving into a crime hotspot!0 -
Have you made enquiries with any of the neighbours living in the immediate area? By doing so will give you a good idea of what is to be expected.Your tax bill is the penalty you pay for not helping the right candidates get into office.:D0
