Who Do I Approach Re Faulty Printer

Hi Folks
Can anyone offer some advice:
I have an all in one HP printer/scanner/copier, less than 3 month old which isn't pulling the paper through, or when it does is crooked or gets jammed. This problem has been going on for a few weeks but I haven't had time to get it sorted. I have made sure nothing is in there jamming it.
I brought it from Argos - should I take it back to them (I don't have the packaging but do have the receipt) or do I need to call HP - actually no UK phone number, will have to go online in first instance.
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks

You have the receipt? if so, take it back into store where they will usually take a look and exchange it straight away. They seem to be pretty good like that and exchanged a printer for me with a similar problem.0 -
Thanks for the advice - I will take it into the store, that was my first instinct, but didn't want a wasted journey if they were going to just say I needed to deal with HP.
Anyone know if I can refuse if they say it needs to be sent away for repair? Guess if that is the only option I will have to take it, but would rather have a straight replacement.
Again any advice much appreciated.0 -

Well your contract is with the retailer although retailers often try and fob people off by telling them its not their problem and they have to contact the manufacturer.
As for repair, if it is of no significant inconvenience to the consumer and more economical, yes they can try a repair first. Also, it should be at no cost to the customer - so they cant charge you for it and should refund any P&P if it were involved. You keep using that word. Ive found my local argos to be quite sensible with smaller items like printers, kettles and home phones etc. Never been offered a repair, just an apology and a replacement. Repairs tend to be for higher end items, though I guess it depends on how much your printer cost.
Of course, OP's local store could be staffed by idiots so you never know lol0 -
Thanks for the advice
It would be really inconvenient as I have a pile of stuff I really need to print out! Guess I will see what they say when I take it in. Fingers crossed they are reasonable abut it and just give me another one in place of it.0 -

Yeah shops round here tend to offer quite good customer service. I didnt mean to imply he would be fobbed off, just that it does happen (by rights they shouldnt) although its unclear whether its due to staff not being properly informed/trained or because they just cant be bothered with the extra "hassle".
Any shop can be nice to you BEFORE they've got your money. Its only the really good ones who continue being nice afterwards.

Thanks for the responses.
I always make a point of being nice to the folks in stores - I cannot believe how some people seem to think they can be downright rude to people because they work in a shop and wear a uniform. Never had cause to take anything back to Argos, though I have brought loads from there, but am expecting they will deal with the problem fairly - just that my local store seems to have lots of part time student staff so I wanted an idea of my "rights" before I went in.
Here's hoping I end the day with a replacement printer!
Should I take out the printer cartridges? Replaced them not long ago and it would be a shame to lose them?0 -

Id take them out, but take them with you just in case
Always pays to be a little more clued up before you go I agree.
Most people are nice, and that usually gets things resolved easily, but you would be surprised at how many people post on here after standing in the middle of Currys banging on about "The Rights!" and "The SECRET EU LAWS!!!" and getting nowhere
What is it they say about a little knowledge being dangerous? lol0
