Everytime I switch my computer on - the date defaults back to 31.12.01!!!!!!!!!!
I change it and then when I reboot it - it defaults back!
Any ideas???
Thanks you clever bunch!

The CMOS battery is dead so it's not saving it when the computer is off.
You'll need to open the case and replace it. It's very easy to do.
Info here.

BTW it's not at all strange, it'/s a very common problem but it is confuisng for people who have not come across it before. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Sounds like your battery on the motherboard is flat, this retains information such as date etc.0

I use the Watch Battery Co. Very quick and postage is less than it would cost me to drive to my nearest town.:p0

Hi,
this'll be the wee fella, pound shop, £1.0 -
Reminds me of a tale involving 2 former workmates. One asked me how to clear a cmos password on a PC he'd got hold off. I told him to take the battery out for an hour or so. Two days later he reported that since he had removed the battery, the computer asked for the time and date on start-up. Thinking he may have forgotten to re-install the battery, I decided the best course of action was to pop-round after work and have a look myself.
When I looked at the computer, he had indeed removed the battery, holder and all!!!, when I asked him about it, he told me that he wasn't sure how to take the battery out so had asked his friend.
Luckily for him I knew someone who was good at soldering, ended-up charging him £50 for having the battery holder and new battery fitted.Never Knowingly Understood.
