Bank Of Scotland Reward Account

My wife wants to open the Bank of Scotland Reward account to really just transfer £1k in and out each month and get the free £5. She does not really want a cheque book or card, does she have to take these ?. Also if she does get a card she does not want to phone up to activate it (No hard sell) so can it just be left unactivated or will they just chase her all the time to activate it ?.

Many Thanks.

  • From what I can see on the website, your wife will only receive a debit card. I thought with every new card you have to phone and activate it for security reasons. A cheque book wont be provided, but even if it was you don't need to use it.

A cheque book is optional, she can choose whether or not she wants one when applying.

She does have to have a card, but they don't generally have to be activated (it depends on your postcode).

Bear in mind that if she applies in a branch or through Moneysupermarket.com she could get £50.
  • From what i remember (and unless its been changed) - the card activation line is all automated, so you dont get to talk to a person.

HBoS are also getting rid of card activation altogether, to fall in line with TSB.

If she opens it can she credit it with £1k before the end of this month and would that count for her £5 this month ?.

Also I would like it to be kind of automated so £1k by standing order from Lloyds to Bank of scotland and then £1k back to Lloyds again, but I can't set up the standing order from Bank of Scotland back to Lloyds on the same day can I as she could go overdrawn if the credit does not come in until after the standing order back to Lloyds ?. Or could she get a £1k OD (If possible) and then it could all be automated all on the same day ?.

If you see what I mean ?.

This seems like a lot of effort for £5 a month. Why bother?

£60 a year for opening an account and setting up two standing orders?

    Works for me!

£5 per month is a good rate of return on £1.
