I used to do a mix of rolled oats and ground almonds with added dried and fresh fruit, served with milk. The shop bought ground almonds seemed fine for my toddlers and they give sweetness as well as fats.0

Fab idea re ground almonds! It'll be so much easier when she can eat nuts, as they seem to be the best source of good calories, besides olive oil, and suchlike. I'm wondering about blitzing other nuts in the food processor til they're powdery too.
Thanks, sorry for late reply but I'll give that a go!0 -
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone makes their own muesli, or if anyone has a good recipe for it?
The muesli we buy seems to keep increasing in price, and it just occurred to me that it might be worthwhile making it insteadOn the other hand perhaps it'd cost just as much buying all the separate ingredients (?)

Hi Dill,
There's an older thread with some recipes that may help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

You can use a mixture of barley, rye, millets and oats - all obtainable from your health food store.
Hmf. I've noticed that the only health food stores I have access to are Holland & Barrett, and that chain is (a) pricey and (b) fond of selling sugary junk. All the independent health food stores seem to have been gobbled up. :sad:0 -
The basic recipe that I use for granola is:
10 cups dry ingredients to
1 cup oil and
1 cup honey, gently warmed together and poured over mixed dry ingredients.
Divide between 2 baking trays, cook for 30-35 minutes at 300 degrees, stirring at least once.
When cool, mix in a cup or two of dried fruit
I usually use at least 5 cups of rolled oats in the dry ingredients, the rest can be any combination of :
sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, (whole or ground - I use the liquidiser),chopped almonds, shredded coconut
other grain flakes - jumbo oats, soya flakes, millet flakes etc
powdered milk - cow, goat, soya
flour - wholemeal, barley, rye, soya,0 -
I really like Aldi's swiss style muesli but I have been unable to get it for at least 6 weeks in my local store. I checked another couple of stores in passing but they didn't have any either. I refuse to pay the inflated price for Alpen and so I've tried Asda's and Morrison's versions but both are yukky as breakfast cereal so I'm using them up in flapjack. Does anyone have any recommendations?I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

The Lidl own brand is gorgeous and beats the Aldi version hands down imho.Val.0

This is the one thing I hate about Aldi. Things that are really lovely and popular seem to get discontinued for some reason. I had never been a fan of muesli until I tried this from Aldi, but it is really lovely and filling. I was looking for it the other day in my local store and couldn't find it, and there wasn't a space for it either. The staff are pretty good in my local so I shall ask them if it has been discontinued. Failing that I shall give the Lidl one a try.0
