    Hi
Definatly Cat D, but has had a CoD (Certificate of Destruction) issued against the car and the records have been closed at DVLA so no new keepers or any other details can be updated.

I am not after sympathy or anything along those lines, it is partially our fault for trusting people too much and not doing a check on the vehicle before we bought it, we checked the V5 against the vin number ect.. but not a history check.
I just posted this on here incase someone has had any previous problems like this and could offer good advice, I have been given good advice from replies in this topic and am truly greatful.
Through the members of this forum I have found out excellent information like a post from alcot33uk who said the DVLA has a error rate of 30% which is insane and as the previous owner still had the V5 which my brother signed, I am hoping that this is one of their mistakes, or maybe someone cloned the plates and that one was destroyed??
anyway it is now being investigated and have been told it is a possibility that the car can be reinstated, that still sounds bad as its only a possibility but compared to the letter we received saying the CoD cannot and will not be removed, this is good news

Does the car look like it's been a cat D and repaired, or does it look like a paper mistake?

Previous owner got it from a car dealer in Seaham (North East), the car looks sound, it has got cosmetic damage on the bonnet but it looks like the sun did it, its like the paint melted, not too bad but does need a respray and a scratch on the nsf door as if a childs bike had caught it and thats about it.

If it was a cat D car then it has been through the insurance system so at least it will be possible to find out when all this happened, ie, in who's ownership.;)

So why did you friend buy it from a dealer then sell it on so quickly?
    Something doesn't add up there.

I can't help but wonder if its been sent to be scrapped by the insurer and someone at the scrapyard has identified it as repairable, repaired it, but not put it through properly and they have still done the destruction certificate.

I am afraid though your friend doesnt come across as likely to be innocent on this as the car would have been unmotable, untaxable and uninsurable so his protests of innocence seem unlikely.

He bought it quickly as he needed a car for work because he commuted 30 miles a day, it was the best he could afford at the time as he was unemployed for about a year, now he has upgraded.

The thing is about my friend/colleague I was his supervisor for a while and when we spoke about cars and problems we have had he came across as nieve, he openly admits to being cluless about cars, he said he just knows how to use them and thats it.
you may think that he is playing me and is maybe setting up his story but this goes back to way before he got his new car and decided to sell his old one.

I don't know why but I believe him, after all he left my work shortly when I bought the car off him he as he got offered his old job back which he got made redundant from, he could of got rid of me completly but he phoned me up and give me his new number, I also rang him on his wedding day unaware (he invited me but I was working and forgot about it) and he raked through all his documents for me to answer my questions, I remembered the next day and appologised and he told me its not a problem as he is devastated of the problems we are having, he has offered to take me to the place where he bought the car and go in with me to see if we can find out where the error has occurred and he answers every message I send him or phone call I make and never fobs me off.

@ mikey72 no its too long thin and starts in the top corner
