Sticky table

Hope someone can advise me here, my dining table (about 6 years old) which I think is made of wood is so sticky. The framework of the table is fine its just the top that is causing problems.
I've cleaned it with everything I can think off: washing up liquid, Cif, vinegar, lemon juice, soda crystals (not all at once but in seperate intervals!) and it does not improve. Its so sticky that when touched you have to almost peel your hand off it!
Any advice would be most welcome.

How long have you and your dining table been in Spain? Is this your first summer?
(I suppose I'm wondering if it has a waxed finish that's going tacky in the heat)import this0 -
Oh thank you Laurel, didnt think about that - its our 3rd summer now. Wonder if thats whats happening? If it is, what do you think I should do to it now?0

If you use polish on it, I'd stop.
As for removing sticky wax (if that's what it is), I'm sure somebody else will know!import this0 -
Sure you'd have to strip it off with some sort of product (try a hardware store)Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

I suspect that the finish has started to degrade, and has become tacky. Is it a wax or a varnish?
I suspect your only option will be to strip off the finish (witrh stripper or sandpaper, but the latter may get clogged, so need frequent replacing) and start again.
I'll move this to the In Your Home Board once you have more OS input.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
