Evening all, after some advice for a friend of mine,
She left her job in december as she was moving back to be near her family, has been signing on since march and is in receipt of JSA, she starts her a new job on the 12th of July, but her last signing on day will be the 6th of July, and will be working 28 hours.
Will she be able to claim anything up until her first payday ( she thinks it will be monthly pay)
All i can find out tho is that she has had to be in receipt of JSA for 26 weeks, for job grant thingy, and that she cant claim WTC either.
Is this the case? or is there anything else that she may be able to get? (btw she is 52, dont know if this helps, but im sure i saw something about over 50s going back to work, but i cant remember now
)
Thank you

If you don't want to work, you have to work to earn enough money so that you won't have to work

Although I am not 100% sure on this, I don't think that there is anything that your friend can claim because of the 26 week rule associated with JSA. However, there is an Advisors Discretionary Fund whereby your friend can go see her Jobcentre advisor and ask for help with costs towards the first month of working until she is paid.
Also, as she is on JSA, I'm assuming that she will be receiving both Housing Benefit/LHA and council tax benefit. I'm pretty sure that there is a 4 week run-on for these benefits that will kick in as soon as she starts working and get her through until payday but tell your friend to make sure she's informed them she has begun working as I'm told that they can be pretty unforgiving if you don't!
Hope that helps!DFD: 2017 :eek: | Savings: £1

The housing benefit run on is also when in receipt of JSA for 26 weeks or more0

Thankyou for pointing that out, I thought it was regardless of how long you had been on benefits but as I said, I don't have much experience of JSA other than that of my ex-husband

Her last regular signing on day may be 6 July, but she won't sign off until 11 July (by taking her book in on that date with the "signing off" bit completed). So I'm thinking she should get a small payment for those 5 days, but I may be wrong.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

JSA gets calculated up til last day before job starts, regardless of signing day.
check when you go in, re working tax credits- they may get you to call direct (use their phones!)..
also best let housing benefit / council tax peeps know- they will catch up with you anyway..
not sure how long you have to be jobless, to qualify for a 1 month free buffer on rent when get back into work..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

She wont be able to get WTC as the job is only 28 hours, and isnt WTC for over 30 hours?

She has been staying with family since she moved, so isnt in receipt of H/B or C/T."I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea
