Why should Staron reveal their wholesale prices to a retail customer? Its the OP who is holding the project up because the cabs haven't even been ordered yet and they need to be fitted (see Post 18) before the worktop can be manufactured. The fitter is trying to help the OP and I truly do not undertand why so many peeps posting here are making him out to be an ogre.

Keystone is dead right on this...A prime example of 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth'

Furthermore, whilst the OP says the kitchen is 8 - 9 weeks away, it is as yet un-ordered, and who knows what could happen between now and then which could affect this timeline, and if I were the work-top man, I would certainly be looking for a deposit, if only for a level of commitment from the client, since I would not want my cash-flow tied up in something with no forseeable realisation of revenue, not to mention the added hassle of storage, potential damage to worktops, and wrangles of ownership etc.

I'm confused - the OP's fitter says he needs to order the worktop now to avoid the price hike (without the kitchen template) but post 18 says the worktop cannot be ordered without the template. They cant both be right or am I missing something here?

p.s. my understanding was the work top can be ordered (to a specific size) but has to be cut to template for sink/hob etc before fitting. And the cutting can be done by a qualified fitter (hence the suggestion of ordering the work top now to be stocked with the fitter). Is this not right?

He needs to order it to secure the product at Staron's current price before they put the prices up. Order is not a synonym for delivery.

    OP has two choices. Simples.
