Help with Berlin.......

I have booked some flights to Berlin in October and now need somewhere to stay. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in a safe and central area as I will be travelling alone.

Many thanks

  • I - luckily - lived in Berlin for a number of years. I took my wife to Berlin for the first time last year and we stayed at the Hotel Savigny - see website below. It's pretty central - about a 2 min walk to the Kufurstendam, with an underground station (U-Bahn) about 400m away. The hotel is clean and pleasant and very reasonable.

I can recommend the top floor self contained appartments at the Circus Hostel - reasonably priced, always felt safe to walk about at night, and next to an underground station:

  • I'd recommend the Radisson SAS. It's only been open just over a year. The rooms are well appointed with good views (and a widescreen LCD TV). It has a nice gym/sauna area. But the clincher is the aquarium in the lobby: it is truly astounding. Even if you don't stay at the Radisson, make sure you check out the lobby!

  • I was in Berlin last weekend and stayed at the Mövenpick. I got it through the Name Your Own Price service of Priceline and paid around £96 for 2 nights including taxes. A really funky, cool hotel located in the original Siemens building which has been totally restored. It is in a pretty quiet part of the city, close to Potsdamer Platz and a short walk to the Brandenburg Gate.

There is an S-Bahn station right next to the hotel (Anhalter Bahnhof). My partner and I took the train to and from Schönefeld airport for a total cost of €8,40 (£5.60).

Really lovely hotel, I would definitely go there again.

    Uniform Washer
Twin rooms available at the International YHA. Walking distance to centre, but stops just up the road and the food was great!
