Energy Bills VAT January 2011

As standard Vat is being raised by 2.5 percent. Does this mean that, stealthily, the VAT on Utility Bills will now be 7.5 percent instead of 5 percent.
If this is the case EVERBODY is now a loser!!!!!! Even for true blue supporters surely this is a kilowatt too far.!!

I believe that only relates to the lower level (which strangely is referred to as the standard rate, whilst the current 17.5% is referred to as the higher rate) of IPT (Insurance Premium Tax)
The Budget appears to make no change to the reduced rate of VAT (5%)

Hi no change to energy VAT which will remain at 5% for Domestic Supplies
