What am I supposed to claim?

I was due to start a new job but because I was in hospital they had to let me go. I'm still not fully recovered and wondering what benefits I should be claiming. I don't currently have a permanant place to live either.

Incapacity benefit no longer exists for new claimants.

OP you need to apply for ESA if you are ill.

Incapacity Benefit was closed to new claims in October 2008, it was replaced by ESA.

It was never a choice between the two as they are different benefits with different criteria.

Hi RBK, I hope you are feeling a little bit better & im so sorry to hear of your plight.

If I was you i'd apply for ESA, LHA, CTB & DLA at least until you are feeling strong enough to return to work.

Don't rush yourself back to work & make yourself ill again.

She doesn't have a job to rush back to - they let her go as she got sick and was unable to start the job.

Once you are well enough, you can then apply for JSA, LHA, CTB

Do you pay rent for your temporary accommodation or are you sofa surfing?
