Can they make me pay?

I had a 20 minute consultation with a chirpodist two months ago. The chiropodist gave me a pair of trainer inserts which she said would help my condition and advised me to come back in a month.
I paid the receptionist the £40 fee which is the amount she asked for, I made an appointment to return in one month and left. A couple weeks later I decided that the chiropodist was not good value for money and so cancelled my appointment and have not been back since.
Today I got a bill for £65.00 for the trainer inserts she gave me. She had not sold these to me, mentioned the cost or that I would be billed for them. I had assumed that my £40 consultation fee included these cheap looking rubber inserts so am very shocked to receive a bill for them two months later.
I have no intention of paying although she is welcomed to have them back should she wish.
If there was no agreement of sale or any indication from her of the price she wished to charge then surely I do not owe any money? I paid my bill before i left the surgery and was sure that my £40 covered my bill in full for consultation and the inserts.
I would be grateful for any thoughts or advice

From how you describe I agree with you. Have you spoken to them and what do they say? Is an offer to return the inserts sufficient?0
