Ebay Help!

Just wondering if any of you lovely people can help me with this....
DH & I have used Ebay in the past to buy & sell various bits & bobs on a fairly irregular basis. I had a call from a DCA calling them Justicia something or other saying that Ebay have passed a debt on to them and they wanted £50 and some pence there & then, I was a bit shocked and was bit rude to the girl (much to my shame) and told her to take it up with Ebay and put the phone down. I've then checked on my Ebay account and there are unpaid fee's that have genuinely been overlooked (Don't go on Ebay regularly as too much temptation and have seperare email account for Ebay) the unpaid charges on Ebay are £25.77 which I will be more than glad to pay today and I have sent Ebay a lengthy email today explaining this, but I think that the remainder of the "balance" is made up of the DCA's fees which I have no intention (at the moment anyway!) of paying.
My question being if I just settle this with Ebay will the DCA be able to chase me for their fees and could I get in trouble for this?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm not sure with Ebay but I would refuse to pay them if Ebay made no contact with you before sending in a debt collection agency, thats crazy0

Hmmm - the previous poster is assuming that Ebay made no contact with you, but I am guessing they DID send you emails which you didn't get because you didn't log on to your Ebay account - am I right?
If so, I think you should pay this £50 odd ASAP. If you pay it off quickly there shouldn't be any long term effects (except that you are £25 out of pocket - you would have had to pay the Ebay charges anyway). It's important that you pay Justicia or whoever off QUICKLY so that the charges don't escalate and you don't get black marks on your credit reports. I've made the odd mistake like this in the past, and it's really annoying but not worth beating yourself up about - just pay it (even if you have to borrow some money to do so) and move on. Try to set up systems for yourself so it can never happen again, and write it down to experience!

i'd ring ebay
if they have been unable to contact you at all (or you've been ignoring them), and it's resorted to an agency, then you're liable to pay the fees and everything
ignorance is no excuse i'm afraid, you made the debt, now you have to pay upmoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Hi Joanne
I too was late with ebay fees and they sent quite a few reminders.
It's not quite right that you wouldn't have seen them because you didn't log onto your ebay account because you also would have received notification in your personal email box. Unless you weren't logging onto personal emails either you should have had loads of reminders.
So maybe it is possible that you didn't get reminders? As bleugh has suggested I would phone ebay and clear it up directly with them.
good luck0 -
It isn't actually possible to phone eBay.
You admit that you owe this money so it would be easier if you called Intrum Justitia and paid off the £50 something. DCA always add their fees onto any debt that they are instructed to collect. You can't just say you'll only pay the eBay fees of £25.77 as you would have had enough time already to have done this prior to it going to a DCA. If you leave a bill unpaid and it goes to a DCA you have to be prepared to pay any additional charges incurred.
I would imagine that you were sent numerous email reminders, whether you read them or not isn't the point. You obviously listed and consequently sold items on eBay and would have known that you had fees to pay.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Yep, like the others said, you'll have to pay the £50. Once the debt is passed to a debt collection agency, you are liable for their fees. And the longer you leave it, the more fees you will incur, so it's better to pay now and be glad it's only cost you £25.
You can set up a direct debit payment with ebay to make sure that this doesn't happen again in future.

She was NOT logging into her email as she has a different one for eBay that she doesn't use regularly. If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
Hi Joanne,
Don't know if you've acted yet, but I just thought I'd let you know that I received telephone calls from Intrum Justicia recently, claiming a debt that I didn't realise I owed from an online catalogue store. I ignored the debt collectors and paid the original debt straight away to the store and never heard from IJ again. I think most stores, probably ebay included, will inform them that you've paid and cancel the debt. Worth a try if it saves you the fees.0
