Anyone had Rockwool external insulation put on their house?

Options
A lot of the council properties in the surrounding towns from us are having external cladding put on - having drove slowly past them I've seen its by the Rockwool brand - the cladding panels that then get rendered on top of.

I'm very interested in this as we live in a metal pre-fab house and have been wanting it rendered for some time but all the local renderers have said they'd not want the job as they weren't sure how to get the render to stick to the metal surface (which obviously is a big concern). Another house like ours that had rendering done years ago is starting to show this problem - the render is sliding down the house basically looking like a right mess.

So I was just wondering if anyone has ever had Rockwool external panels put on? The council houses are all looking lovely now but I'm worried that the render might slide off these panels too? According to the Rockwool website they are designed to be rendered on top of but I'm still wary!

Search for a company called Blue Flag in Halifax, 014222 48613 you need to contact Frank Pommier, who is in charge of external insualtion of mobile homes (static chalet type) I believe there is a LARGE grant for this leaving the owners with just a few hundred quid to find. The exterior is finished with a render .Tell him Big Pete J passed on this info, this may help. I know they have done similar in S Wales or Cornwall recently. Hope his helps

Some concrete tower blocks near us have been insulated from the outside. They seemed to be using 100mm thick polystyrene slab insulation. It was covered with wire netting and rendered. It all looks very smart. So, it would appear that there are other ways of doing it, besides Rockwool. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the company doing the work.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Hi Sarahlou, I work for Rockwool and we do a number of solutions for metal buildings including mounting on steel frames (see http://guide.rockwool.co.uk/media/78264/rockshield_metal_frame-sec.pdf ). If you want to find your nearest stockist or get advice on what would suit best, you can call 0871 2221780. The external wall render system is called RockShield and we also have a brick slip system called BrickShield which simulates a brick exterior using sections of real brick. There are definitely grants available for getting this done, your local installer should be able to help you with those or you could call the council directly. There are other systems available such as foam or polystyrene, but you do get additional sound insulation from Rockwool which can sometimes be a godsend!
