Eon Query.. they owe us, but we have to pay them to get it?

Be gentle... I'm new!!!

I have recently followed Martin's email advice and switched from Eon to Npower trough a cashback website.

I have just had final bills from Eon as follows:
Gas: £87.52 Credit
Electricity: £73.82 Debit
Total: £13.70 Credit

Eon say however that we need to pay them the £73.82 and we will be refunded the £87.52 "shortly."

2 questions:
Can Eon insist we pay when in fact they owe us money?
Any idea how long the refund might take?

Thank you!

  • Ask them to transfer the Credit balance from the gas account to the Electricity account ans pay you the balance of £13.70, of course you can only do this if both accounts are in the same name.
Don't pay them just tell them to get it sorted.

There is an Eon rep on this Forum so I think he will sort it out for you.

    Good luck
    Hope thsi helps

    Hi Emma

Sounds as though you have two separate accounts; one for gas and one for electricity, rather than a one bill arrangement.

If this is the case, I'd agree with specialsparky. We would generally do a balance transfer between the two accounts and then refund the remaining credit.

However, sometimes there are issues/circumstances that prevent this. It's impossible to tell without looking at your individual accounts.

I'd be happy to take a look for you. Just drop an email to the address in my Profile and I'll see what the situation is. :)

Once an account has been fully closed, we aim to have any remaining credit balance refunded within 10 working days of the closure date. The actual timeframe will depend on the payment arrangement set up on the account.

    Hope this helps.

Special Sparky... Thank you for the reply.

Malc... thank you. I can't find your email on your public profile... maybe because I'm new to the forum?
Could you get it to me some other way? It would be great if you could look into it.
    Thank you
