Hey Emmzi - not wanting to put a dampner on things, but it will have probably burnt your bridges with tht particular agency, as they tend not to like people who just walk out. (I did it about 4 years ago, and that agency wouldnt touch me again!!). At least you have other interviews lined up, however, sometimes we all have to do things we might not want to. I could have given up my 2nd jobs PLENTY of times when I was doing it, but it was a means to an end!! There were times I wanted to walk out of my main job too, but it just wasnt worth it and would have set my DFD back too much!!
Even last week here, I had a weeks temp work - the guy I was working for made me cry on my 2nd day, however, as much as I knew I didnt have to put up with it, and didnt come to Australia to deal with that rubbish, I also knew that if I walked I would burn my bridges wih the fantastic agency lady who placed me there & who will be able to find me work when I'm back in December (and who also a) pays really well, and b) has placed lots of temps who have gone onto be sponsored) - I couldnt miss out on that!!
I know life is too short to be unhappy, but a job is a job, and sometimes beggars cant be choosers!!
Good luck with your interviews though, I hope one of them turns into a fantastic new start for you!!0 -
Hi Ms London- you do make some valid points.
Re: burning bridges. I have been very careful to use different agencies for 'proper' and 'emergency' jobs. Which also helps because they find it easier to place you if they can 'pigeonhole' you.
I think I was VERY lucky with this agency. They did a full exit interview, immediately offered another similar job elsewhere, and gave me contacts for their finance division for other types of work.
I'm giving myself a time limit of Christmas for finding something in my field. My savings won't be wiped by then; it'd be different if I had no cash put by. But in January, it'll have to be ANY job if I want to use the loan repayment fund for its planned purpose. Possibly incorporating teacher training later in the year...
I guess it was a mental health thing for me. I've just been chucked, and the thought that ALL an abandoned spinster can do is a job for the brain dead with a room full of disheartened school leavers who only want to talk about booze and shoes, with a trainer who actually TOLD us he was turning up the a/c to keep us awake.... you get the idea.
There will be a time when it seems like the only choice; but for now,it isn't. I'm getting back into fighting mode. I've worked and studied hard all my life; I deserve better. And I'm bloody well going to get it.Debt free 4th April 2007.

Hi Emmzi
Good luck with the interviews - I really hope you get the job you want. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
Cheers all. What a supportive lot you are!
Just had a call about another emergency job I applied for - same line of work, slightly better pay, and more notice of shifts so easier to line up other interviews.
I THINK I will call them middle of next week if I don't get either job before then. I can always say I've been on holiday, I guess.
Gaaaah, it's the decision making that's worst!!! But I know I am damn lucky to have choices to make.Debt free 4th April 2007.
