Thank you everyone for replying, I am still waiting for them to call me back, I have just spoken to my stepdad and before retirement he bought 20 houses and he said don't pay it I have never heard of it also.
As first time buyers it is an unknown world to us been saving for years and living like hermits to be able to get this, you have helped me so much.
No doubt I will be back with more questions lol0 -
Start getting quotes for solicitors now ... mention to them you're being asked to pay this bizarre fee and they should tell you the same.0

Don't pay it.
Tell the selling EA that his client, the seller, hired him and agreed to pay him a fee to sell their house.
You're buying the house from him/them, not hiring them for anything. You're hiring your own representatives, and will pay them yourself. And as poppy said, when you hire your solicitor, they'll tell you not to pay it too.0 -
Your best bet, write a letter to them (EA), explaining your offer has been accepted etc etc as everyone knows but unfortunately you are going to have to withdraw that offer on the basis of the EA charging this amount. Send a copy to the seller's and within a couple of hours i bet this charge disappears!0

Stop dealing with the EA. Pass your solicitors details to the vendor for them to pass on to their solicitor. Let the solicitors get on with the sale. The vendor will still have to pay the EA for their services but your offer has been accepted now so you don't need to have anything more to do with them.0

It's not some scheme to try and make the buyer to use a solicitor of the estate agent's choice is it? Passing on people in need of a solicitor in return for a nice little commission plus a fee?
Whatever it is for, do not pay it and beware in case they try to get you to sign something.0 -

Contact "The Property Ombudsman" at www.tpos.co.uk. They will be able to advise you about this ripoff £50 fee that Haart is trying to charge you. Haart is a member of this organisation and says on their website (Haarts) that they subscribe to the TPOS code of practice. It should prove interesting. Let us know what is said.
Oh, and ask Haarts for a copy of their terms of business.0 -
