tax credit claim

i've just filled in my tax credit claim form but realised i know longer have my child benefit reference number. i have rang up for a new number to be sent out, and informed hmrc that i dont have the number yet. they advised me to send the form in without it and ring them with the number when i get it.
my question is, does anybody know if this will have any impact on how long the claim takes to process? thanks
