Change to employment contract

I am 47 have having been working for my current employer for 13years. They want to change my contracted days of working, i currently work Tue to Fri 30 hours per week.
They want me to change these days so that i work 1 sat in 4, I have told them i dont want to but i will show willing and do so on a temporary basis for the next 6 months.
They are not happy with that and want the change to be permanent and want me to sign a new contract to that effect. Also this has only been communicated to me by informal chats by my line manager, should they be requesting the change in writing and meeting me formally where i maybe accompanied by someone etc
If they force me to do this what legal procedures should they follow ie how much notice should they give me before the change is implemented etc

Hi
i think if you do it temporarily then you are accepting it IMO.
seek some advice a significant change to the job role can be seen as redundancy not sure about the hours depends on what is in your current contract. mine for example says i have standard hours but they can be changed0
