Second hand car on Credit Card

Hi
Last week I bought a 2nd hand car from a garage. I put the full proce, 2.5k, on my credit card. On the delivery day the man from the garage said they had found a fault and the car would be a week late. With hindsight I regret the purchase for more reasons than just it being late and now want out of the deal. What are my rights here? Can I have a full refund? Is he entitled to keep some kind of deposit? Apart from me paying him we didn't enter into any contract, as in I have no paper work except a reciept.
Many Thanks for your help

So, apart from you agreeing with the dealer to buy the car, there is no agreement to buy the car.chantaspell wrote: »Apart from me paying him we didn't enter into any contract, as in I have no paper work except a reciept.
Have I understood that correctly?

You have a contract to buy the car, it might not be a written contract and there are no terms in the contract. So I think you might struggle here.
The only thing I can think is he might be in breach because he missed the delivery day, but that will be your word against his and could cost you to prove otherwise.
But at least they are fixing a problem and you should be glad of that.0 -
He's entitled to keep all of your money and in return provide you the car that you contractually agreed to buy (and gave consideration for - £2.5k).
You have no right to your money back, you can ask nicely but any type of refund would be goodwill.
Best bet would be to try and sell it privately when it does get delivered.
With regards to it being a week late, unless you have made the time critical nature known to the seller and made it part of the contract this would be a non-starter for a full refund.
Sorry it isn't better news, good luck.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Would you prefer the garage sold you the car and you break down on the way home?
If the garage are being genuine then i doubt there is much you can do, If they drag the repairs out
then you should be able to get your money back.
I bought a car a few years ago, test drove it several times. Bought it drove to pick the kids up from swimming
and it wouldnt start. One of those things, It happens.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
