First off it's partly my own fault. When I was with NTL/VM,I had private health care which ceased when I was made redundent.Muggins here forgot then to register at the local dentist.
Yesterday,I came down with toothach like you would'nt believe! The whole left side of my face & eye is on fire.Even Co Codomol tablets failed to relieve the pain, all they done was give me really bad heartburn & upset stomach not to mention make me stoned!!
So this morning I phoned up the dentist,Robert Mitchell in Donaghadee, to see if I could make an appointment, only to be told that as I was'nt a patient I'd have to wait over two weeks to be seen, but I could drive the 25 miles to Belfast & try to be seen at the hospital!! Considering the way the painkillers were affecting me that option was out!
The other dentist in the town would only see me if I was on benefits.
Makes you wonder what the **** I pay my taxes for!!! I'd be better off on the dole!

Have you tried the NHS helpline? When I was in that situation they sorted me out an emergency appointment that night at a local dentist practice. Good luck, nowt worse than toothache!0 -
Only 2 weeks ! You are lucky.
Botched extraction over a month ago left me with a jaw full of splinters which are still working themselves through my gum and 2 huge spikes of bone which keep giving me infections . The dentist can not operate as it means incisions and has to be done in hospital by an Orthodontist . I went last Saturday morning expecting it to be done then and there only to be told it was a preliminary consultation and I have to wait till 24th August for the operation.
I am seriously considering suing the Dentist and hospital for neglect .

Thanks but the is no NHS Helpline over here in Northern Ireland, they're a law unto themselves.Could you not get a cab to the hospital?
Last time I got a cab to Belfast from Donaghadee,it cost me £45.So that options out,as is the bus because of the way the Co Codomol is affecting me.
Besides,according to the website,the's no guarentee you'll be seen.0 -
I recall a few years ago being in agony with my tooth. I went to my Dr who prescribed antibiotics and sent me to my own Dentist who Im fortunate sees emergencies with the same day usually. He took a look and said leave it and see. The pain returned at 10pm on the Friday night as I was due to go on holiday the next morning.
at 7am I called the emergency dentist, virtually in tears through pain. I was quite naive at the time and didnt know if I was able to take my co codamol painkillers before what I knew was going to be an extraction. When the cow on the other end asked me if I had taken painkillers I said no and told her why. She then reasoned I obviously wasn't in that much pain then and didn't need an appointment. I had to beg and plead to be seen and finally at 9.30am the tooth was pulled and the large abscess underneath was pressure free.0 -
Had this problem recently, OH had a tooth that needed removing and his dentist (NHS) told him they couldn't fit him in for 2 MONTHS to take it out. When he asked how to cope with the pain they shrugged. The emergency line wouldn't help him as he's already registered, local hospital turned him away telling him to ring the emergency dentist.
So he spent 2 months living off far too many painkillers for them to ring him the day before to say his dentist had gone on holiday and they'd see him a month later.
Took 3 whole months and he was drugged out of it for the entire timeGreen and White Barmy Army!0
