Gear Linkage

I was wondering if anyone knew the cost of replacing the gear linkage on my Vauxhall Corsa? My local Vauxhall repair centre failed to call me back with a price.

I guessed it was a corsa before I even read the post! Not sure about exact cost but I don't *think* its too big or expensive a job. Maybe £100 or less? Sorry, someone else will be along soon.

If the only problem is selecting gears is like stirring soup, and you can select all the gears, it doesn't jump out of gear, and knees don't prevent the gears being selected - then it doesn't really need repair if you're happy to put up with the stirring soup feeling.

No, i just cannot put it in any gear. The RAC put a temp fix on it, so i could drive it home!

Snapped selector rod or pivot?

There's plenty of bits in there to potentially go wrong, so it really depends which one and how easy it is to get at. Sometimes you can just lift the gearshift boot and get to it. Anything from £30-150 at a guess...

Sounds like a similar problem my daughter had on her 03 Corsa at 40k. It was becoming increasingly difficult to engage any gear and finding first at start was a nightmare. She took it to her local garage who said it was a common fault on the Corsa. They did the repair. Gear linkage was £54.10 and labour was £35. (Nov 2008 prices)

Take it to a local garage. All as said above, it is a known problem, and why should you pay a main agent (asumption) more money when they can't even be arsed to call you back :mad:

I had the same problem on a corsa,it was about £80

I had the same problem last year on an 03 corsa. Local garage charged me £120 for it (but I got the dealership to pay half as I'd only had it a couple of months.. it wasn't technically covered by used car warranty, hence only half..)

I had to go back again about a week later as it still didn't feel right, I felt it shift to the side when trying to get in second gear, and they had to tighten something else which they *claim* was not connected with the original problem.. but they didn't charge me for it, so I'm not so sure!!

the gear linkage on my 2002 1.2l corsa needs fixing/replacing, and i was wondering if anyone here might be able to say what is the (current) expected cost for it? I've had 3 quotes ranging from £130 - £180, and having only just looked into it, I don't know if all 3 have quoted for exactly the same work. It seems that the garage could just replace the gear linkage with a 'plastic' one, or the better 'metal' version. I'd rather have the 'metal' one that will last more than 30k miles!
