Hi
I want to set up a website of video podcasts. It would be 100% free to access. I am currently able to make the podcasts using free software and save them as media player files.
Anyway, I wondered if anyone on here could offer advice on how best I might go about this.
Thanks!

A nice easy wordpress setup would do you. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't seem to allow wmv files.0 -
Take a look at the plugins available for WP.
Also, WMV is an awful format for web streaming. I just skip past any sites that require me to install anything to use them properly. Stick to flv like most other sites and you'll be fine. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

OK, thanks. Problem is that the software I use (Smart Notebook, and the recorder facility) only allows me to save the files as wmv files. Is there a way I can convert them to flv files?0 -
http://download.cnet.com/Riva-FLV-Encoder/3000-2140_4-10320097.html should do the trick. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Are you looking to make your podcast available on iTunes and other podcast services? If so, you might want to consider converting to MP4 or similar. If you are just embedding the podcast on your website, then flv is probably fine, but you will be exclusing all the iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad users out there who do not have access to Flash!
I don't (yet) do video, but I do a couple of audio podcasts in MP3; the website is on Google Sites, the RSS feed is also there but is run through Feedburner for the stats and the individual audio files are hosted on the Internet Archive at Archive.org, which is free. I believe they do host video files too...

Very true. Might be worth having the flv embedded to watch online, then a more compatible version linked to to download. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Sorry to resurrect this old thread...
But I have been using a free web site host up till now. I upload my videos to YouTube and then embed them on my website. I would now like to have a better website, i.e. I don't mind paying a bit. I don't get many visitors -maybe 5 to 20 a day. But I do get quite a lot of hits on YouTube so am aware it could get a lot more busy. Budget -wise , I would like to pay under £5 a month (as under as possible! I've seen a few £1.99 deals and am not sure how reliable these are). It will still be free so I'm not looking to make any money out if it.
I was hoping someone might be able to recommend a reasonably priced web host which is reliable, where I can also get a fairly priced domain name (I'd like a .com one). Bandwidth isn't a big problem as I will continue to use YouTube. Really don't want all the advertisements that I currently get. But I would like to get stats on how many visitors etc.
I have searched various forums and can't seem to find any impartial independent reviews of UK based web hosts.0 -
Found one called 1 and 1. Anyone heard of it? Thanks.0

I'd use wordpress or blogspot, they are free and you can make them look very good with a free templates and easy to add in plug-in's to link into other social media's like twitter, facebook, rss0
