Hi
I have tomorrow off work so I am taking the girlfriend out, I live in Hull and was thinking Mother Shiptons Cave and look around Knaresborugh. Has anyone been, and is it suitable for a couple? Or any other better days out for tomorrow? (Was looking Forbidden Corner but I had to book ahead and now its fully booked).
Thanks

TBH that would be the last place on my list for a day out. Have you looked at pics of it on the net ? It's a bit of a delve in a rockface and there's also a dribble of water that petrifies things that are strung up. 30 seconds and you've seen all there is to see.
If you want to give her a treat with lots of things to see you'd be better off going to Whitby..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
What's in Whitby to do? I havn't been there in years.0

Knaresborough has turned into a bit of a Ghost town. Mother Shiptons cave is not that great to be honest. You can get free entry if you don't go through the main entrance - clamber over the fence at the back ;-) Basically just a park, with the "petrifying falls" pulling people in.
However lots to see and do around the area, and in easy reach - such as Harrogate/York. Perhaps a visit to Sutton Bank to see the famous White horse and take in the views - not much there though- other than walking.
I'd second Whitby - it's a better day out. all around.
Ingleton/Hawes area is nice too - but that's a good 90 minutes further than Knaresborough, so a bit of a trek for just a day.
Depends what you are after for the day?0 -

Sit outside the local pubs and watch the fisherman - the gf needs to drive of course ;-)
Great town, lots to see - Whitby abbey for instance, the Smokery, the harbour, the Ghost walks, the Vampires.
Great shops. You can easily fill a day there. Knaresborough would be over in 2 hours.
Hmmm I'm only up the road - I should sell it better! lol!
There is Staiths a few miles North of Whitby - not much there but a trip to the past, and great coastal roads/walks on route.0 -
For future reference the forbidden corner is a lovely place to visit , so full of the unexpected. DH and me were disappointed when we went to mother shiptons cave, once you have seen the hanging toys , teddies , dolls in the cave there is not much else to see.:hello:What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
Mother Shiptons is ok for children as it all seems spooky to them, but as adults we found it a bit boring.
I did have a go of the wishing well though and wished for a baby, then three weeks later I discovered I was pregnant. Don't go there and make wishes if you're not ready for a baby yet
Here I go again on my own....0 -
Mother Shiptons cave is stupidly expensive for what it is really. Its a nice walk through the woods, but you could find similar woods for free and the cave is a bit....errr...of a let down? Its OK but mate and I went and didn't see any change from £15.00 to get in!!0

How about York? Loads to see, nice shops & plenty of tea rooms, pubs etc. Or Harrogate/Ripon with a visit to Brimham Rocks or Fountains Abbey?
Having said all that Whitby is meant to be lovely - it's on my list of must visit one day places.0 -
Thanks for all the help everyone
Will go to Whitby and see what we come across, seeing as its unanimous its a bit of a let down
