Please Help! Which TV for my husbands 40th?

Hello,
I am hoping one of you lovely clever techy people could help me? My husbands 40th is coming up (in 12 days!!!) and I haven't got him anything. I have now decided that I should get him a new TV as although money is really tight I know that is what he really wants and he will only be 40 once. Now I just need to figure out which is the right one. He is quite a techy sort so likes the best he can get for his money. The things I have managed to figure out are that he would love an LED but would be happy with LCD. He does not want plasma. He likes lots of holes in the back of the tv (I think he calls them inputs) but as I don't really get what they are for I'm not sure which are required. He also mentioned something about ideally at least 100hz but on a lot of tv specs I can't find anything about Hz so not sure which is which. He also wants full HD. Could anyone suggest any good tvs that are under £700 or give me any guidance as to which of the following are any good?

I'd personally buy the Sony.
Think this one: SONY Bravia KDL-40EX403U 40" Full HD LCD TV
which I believe is better but I may be wrong.0 -

If you really love your husband then you shouldn't wait 12 more days as the World Cup will be almost finished by then0 -
You may not want to buy from Curry's, just one of many examples : LG 42LE5900
- LG 42LE5900 42 INCH 100Hz FREEVIEW HD LED TV
- DLNA - Wireless Steaming
- 100Hz TruMotion *
- Freeview HD
- LED *
- 1 Scart / 1 USB / 4 x HDMI's / Component / Composite / PC Input / Cl Slot / Optical Audio Out *
- 1920 x 1080 *
- Playback of JPEG, MP3, DivX from USB drives
£800 here and £1200 at Curry's
I have no association with this company but their price is right, delivered on time, unpacked in front of me etc.
* = what you specified
NOTE free delivery [ in my case 3 days free ] reduces the price to £770 if you wait 3 - 5 days !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I would go with Richie-from- the Boro, whichever model you choose don't go to Curry's.0

Thanks for all your replies so far.
I don't actually plan on buying from Currys as I know I can get things cheaper elsewhere and ideally, if I can get a good deal then I would like to buy from a local independant dealer who provide good customer service, free installation (locally which includes me) and they have offered to pop over before the day to have a look at our thing that the tv hangs on the wall off (sorry I don't know what it's called) to see if it would be suitable for whichever one I choose to buy or whether I would need to get a different one.
My husband doesn't really get time for online gaming as we have a 1 and 2 year old so that's not a concern.
My plan is to try to figure out which are the best options, find what the best prices are online, then take that info to the local shop on Saturday and see which of them they have there and what price they can do for me. They have already suggested the Sony 40EX403 which they will do for £649 which I haven't found a better price online when you include postage. That said, I didn't ask them about LED TV's so that changes everything if I could get a good one of those for a similar price as that is what he would prefer.Current Debt - [strike]£38000[/strike] [strike]£32000[/strike] [strike]£28500[/strike] [strike]£22000[/strike] [strike]£16000[/strike] [strike]£10000[/strike] [STRIKE]£1500[/STRIKE] £14000:eek:0 -
Sony Bravia 40'' KDL-40V5810U - sadly out of stock now at M&S where I bought one, this set has an inbuilt satellite Freesat HD as well as terrestrial Freeview tuner so you can watch some real HD without waiting for Freeview to roll it out in your area. See if you can find one around £600. The sound quality is good enough 'out of the box', beware that other brands/models may have such thin sound that you need to rush out afterwards & buy surround sound kit for another £300. Sony may be offering a free 3 year manfrs warranty.0

Thanks again for your replies.
Forgot to mention that my husband has a Kef 3005 surround sound system so not sure if that means that sound quality from the actual tv isn't so relevant.
Also, if I manage to get the tv for a good enough price then might get a blu ray player too. From what I have found online I was thinking maybe the LG BD350 or BD370.Current Debt - [strike]£38000[/strike] [strike]£32000[/strike] [strike]£28500[/strike] [strike]£22000[/strike] [strike]£16000[/strike] [strike]£10000[/strike] [STRIKE]£1500[/STRIKE] £14000:eek:0 -
IMHO 'surprise' tech presents aren't a good idea for men. Best to be clear that you want to buy a TV and then he can help with an informes selection.0
