Panacure granules. My dog just threw up!

Has anyone else experienced this after using Panacure granules? He just heaved over the side of my bed (very pleasant!)
Is this a normal reaction to this stuff?
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

    Oh dear and ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

I wouldn't say it was a 'normal' reaction, but I have known some dogs who couldn't stomach the granules.

Probably best to have a word with your Vet or the practise Vet Nurse about an alternative wormer.

I know... I could have lived without it trust me!
Poor babe has retreated to his basket and is feeling sorry for himself!
Do you think it means he has a big worm burden? Vets is shut now but I wonder if/when I should worm him again?

I don't think the Panacur was rejected because of a large worm burden (although the image of all the worms pushing the food and granules back out made me laugh! :)) I think the panacur just didn't suit your dog.

As worming doesn't have any risidule effect, it just gets rid of any worms that are there at the time, and your lad up-chucked the worming dose, then he's not been wormed, so I think I'd wait for his tum to settle then worm again with whatever the Vet recommends.

I use Advocate and Drontal for my dogs.

Hope pooch feels happier soon xx My youngest dog was speyed yesterday and is also feeling a little sorry for herself.

Some dogs will vomit with Panacur (or other wormers). It doesn't mean they do or don't have worms, it's just a reaction to the drug. If most of the dose was vomited back, then it won't have worked and so it would be wise to try again in a week or two, perhaps with a different wormer. Sometimes it will just be a one off and the same drug might be ok on another occasion. It's almost certainly just a nuisance rather than anything serious.

Panacur is usually pretty safe and can be used in puppies and kittens. Nitroscanate (which is in a lot of supermarket wormers) seems to make about 1/3 to 1/2 of all dogs vomit. Ring your vet for an alternative
