My plates are getting hot as well as the food. Also parts on the inside have bubbled up, it's about 2 years old.

Plates will get hot due to heat transfer from the food on it. I think most micros get a bit of bubbling inside after a while although 2 years is quite early.0

I've used the same plate in this one and my previous one and it's got warm occasionally, but now it gets red hot and I need a tea towel to get it out of the microwave.0

Is the Wattage of the new one higher than the older one ?0

Is the plate cracked? I have found that old plates where the glaze has cracked get a lot hotter than totally sound ones.0

Plates will get hot in a microwave- generally the cheap ones get hotter, as the materials are more suitable and they're thicker.
Doesn't sound as though your microwave has any problems.0 -

Thanks, it did have a fine crack in it.0 -
Things get hot in a microwave only if they have water in them. This can happen if they are damp or if they are cracked and contain moisture as a result. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0
