Flush Handle broken - Cost Estimate

Hi,
I had some guests last week and one of the kids went into the toiled. I dont know what he did (apart from the casual things) but he tried to turn the flush handle and it has come out of the flush container. The water gets filled in but to flush I have to lift the flush top and then pull the rod upward by hand as the handle is broken now. I cant fix the handle because it has come out by breaking the plastic and can only be fitted by something like glue that can join up plastic. I need help in two things.
What is the cost of getting it fixed properly by some expert?
What should I use to glue the plastic back if i am not able to afford the above cost?
I can affors £10-£15 being spend on this flush handle being fixed.
As I am renting and landlord do not have any responsibility on things broken by guests so what is the best way to approach my landlord and tell him about it as some people say that he might have this whole bathroom unit in warranty and get a replacement for you.
Small help will be appreciated.
Many Thanks

Why not just tell the landlord that the flush on your loo is broken, it is unlikely that the kids did any thing too serious and it was proberbly on its way out anyway.0

Most DIY's can do this.
Flutter eyelashes ( If you are a woman ! ) and bring out the macho in him. A plumbers merchants eg plumbase will supply cheaply or get one for less than £2 from https://www.toolstation.co.uk - Search for item no 70180.
You needn't call out a plumber.qui tacet consentire -

I'd simply tell the landlord it's broken. If he won't get it fixed for you, it's really easy to do yourself ... see here: http://www.doityourself.com/stry/replacetoilettank. I've done it and I'm just a weak girlie :-)0

Or check out your local DIY store - take broken pieces in with you to compare!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

yep, as people say, DIY. under the cistern lid may be a model number, also the cistern may have a manufacturers stamp on - that will help to identify the cistern. If not, hopefully a generic lever will do - it's just a case of screwing a nut up.
BTW glueing it will not work, too much leverage on it, it will soon break - that's if you can actually get the pieces together properly in the first place.0 -
It should be easy enough to fix - Argos sell matching sets of loo handles & pull-cord handles, and the loo handles are dead easy to replace. You should be able pick up a new handle in a DIY store for a couple of quid and install it in probably about 20 mins. The store might well have an instruction leaflet; otherwise pick up a DIY book from your local library.
It is your landlord's responsiblity, but if he replaces it, he's entitled to withhold some of your deposit for the cost of the repair, and it would be a lot cheaper to do it yourself.0 -
Wilkinsons (Wilkos) have them for £3+0

Its quite easy to fix I done my own (& I,m female) LOL!0

Well, i'm a landlord and if my tenant contacted me to say the handle on the loo had broken I would be round there toot sweat and fix it. Handles on loos don't usually fail, but neither do they last for ever, simple job -0
