I know Marmite isn't for everyone, but all the dogs I've ever had have loved Marmite on bread.
He loves it too and when I take the Marmite out of the cupboard he will automatically sit and start salivating, but when he eats it, it doesn't work too well with him.
I've started with pasta and rice and it's making the food last longer already.
I just went on the internet and had a look around as well as found an online store that sells the same food for almost half price. Postage is a lot though, but it's still cheaper and I don't have to drive to the pet shop to go buy food. So next time I will be buying online.
So - 30 from my normal budget saved. Next?

Are you entitled to any benefits whilst you look for work?
Regarding the dog - marmite is much too salty for a dog, especially one with issues with food.
My dog was intolerant to almost all dog foods (only one she was okay with was imported from the states and cost me a fortune) but she is now on a natural diet which you might want to look into (google for BARF diet or Bones and Raw Food diet). Now despite being a large dog I think I spend about £30 a month on her - and she is much happier on this diet as there is nothing in it at all that causes her any upset. It can be really flexible in what you feed them so once you have worked out something upsets your dog you know to exclude it in future.
When you mention things like the bread OH does not eat, can you not freeze half and then only buy a loaf every other week?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I'll have a look at the BARF diet, thank you.
No, I'm not entitled to any public funds or benefits.
I've gone into Job Centre to ask whether there was any possibility - even if just the cost for interview travel is covered. But they said no.
I just can't believe how hard it is to find work. I have a degree and experience, but I'm just getting nowhere!0 -
With regards to the CRB checks, and bad debt. I have a couple of CCJ's appalling credit rating and have to have regular enhanced CRB checks against my name with working vulnerable clients and currently I am a student nurse. As far as I am aware CRB checks don't have access to your financial records, just your criminal activity.
So on that score I really would not worry.TOTAL AT START £13606.90 27/03/2018

only finance jobs don't like you to be BR or have CCJs plus the police service.0

It's a big dog and he is on a special diet as well. I've put him onto cheaper foods and he eats anything, so has no problems, but he has a sensitive stomach and starts throwing up. I'm currently incorporating a few other things into his diet, so that I can feed him less pellets - my husband buys a loaf of bread a week but never really eats all of it and I don't eat bread, so I've started giving the dog a slice in the morning and a little bit of rice or pasta in the evening with his dinner - if we have that with our meal.
To give you an example of his stomach sensitivity, I gave him a slice of bread with marmite on the other morning and he was throwing up the whole day. Apparently food allergies are common with this breed of dog.
I have a greyhound with a delicate tummy, unfortunately it manifests itself out the other end
The very best food for him was fish4dogs at £40 a big bag and the second best is Wagg at £10 a big bag - he has approx 1 bag a month.
We don't feed him anything else except one dentistick a day, purely because of his diarrhoea.

Thanks for all the responses. Good to know that a DMP will not affect CRBs.
The whole thing makes me so nervous, but it's got to be done.
The dog eats two bowls full of food a day. He eats Eukanuba, seems to be the only food he can stomach.
Like I said, the place I'm buying it from at the moment charges around 60 for it, but I found it on the internet for around 30.
The same online shop also does chews, because he gets the occasional chew, which is also cheaper.
I tried dentastix, but as with the Marmite - BAD reaction.
But altogether, shopping for the chews and food on the internet will save me about 30 a month (postage is not too cheap).
But there is also a independent pet shop in town that I just found on the internet, so I think I might go look at their prices as well.
I can walk there from here - good exercise for me and the dog (=0 -
On the Benefits - Sou is 100% on the spot.
Came to the UK with a Working Holiday VISA and now I'm on a Dependency.
We get our Indefinite Leave to Remain in 2 years time, but will still not have any access to public funds.
After a year on ILR, we can apply for our EU Passports. Then we will get limited access to public funds.
I must say though, I didn't grow up and contribute to UK society my whole life like other people here have, so I don't really expect the UK government to support me in any way. There are people who need those funds and deserve it much more than we do.0 -
