Anyone else noticed that being on budget means that you dont have exspensive and unhealthy takeaways and instead you make something yourself from basics which has little or no artificial preservatives etc in it.
I now eat a lot of fresh food, and take the time to cook instead of micro meals.

I've recently moved into a flat on my own and I'm amazed at how cheap it is to eat well using basic foodstuffs and bogof deals etc. I'm not trying very hard, but I'm spending betwen £10-£30 per week and I've bought a bit too much.Happy chappy0

Hello notes,
Couldn't agree with you more. Our lightbulb moment and our diet started at about the same time. We hardly ever have a take away anymore (last time we went to the chippy was April and can't remember the time before that). Otherwise we're living on fresh fruit and lots of home made meals (soups and stews etc) and salads. All very scrummy.

I agree completely. I have friends who buy junky frozen pies and complain that fresh food is expensive- I just don't understand! I can get 3 substantial meals for me and hubby (and he's a big eater) out of 1 chicken and a bag of vegetables. Takeaways are pretty much a thing of the past now- maybe once a month as a real treat but definitely no more than that.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

Yes i couldnt believe it but have managed to prove myself wrong, and like i said spent 20 quid including toiletries etc and have lots of my "frozens" left.
These "frozens" are important as if i work late i need easy food, and can top them up when i have time to cook at the weekend.
My biggest thing is no more sausage sandwiches for breakfast ! Saving 2.50 a day which is nearly 50 quid a month !!! :rotfl:
And fruit and veg is cheap just dont buy the pre-cut and washed stuff as this can be 5 times as expensive. And it goes off quicker !HALX CC (14%)...............[STRIKE] 5795[/STRIKE]....5470

Totally agree. I bought my first takeaway for months yesterday and the portion was so big, I made it last for two nights. Pre-DFW and FFW I would have scoffed the lot in one sitting!
As nice as it was, however, I kept thinking, "I could have made this for half the price."
Food for thought, I think! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
I agree too! If you have a look at the Old Style board you'll get loads of wonderful ideas for cheap healthy food!:jDo what you love :happyhear0

OH and I always find that when we have to pull in our belts to save some pennies we are eating a far nicer and healthier diet. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
