new adsl router quite a hassle to set up.

I just recieve my wired adsl router from ebuyer for shared use. But the router actually runs on a mains adapter. The problem is i dont have a mains socket near my phone.

I want to know is does all wired/wireless routers require a mains adapter?

I'm asking this because before I was using my free usb modem which didn't require a mains adapter, it was just a cable connection and away you go.

So is that extra power usage for the router really neccessary?

As far as I know yes.. a router is a bit more complicated and power hungry than a modem. Can't you use an extension lead/4 gang?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

The other option is to use a phone extension to get your phone line somewhere more manageable.

    Hope that helps
