Confused....can anyone help please?

Hi everyone,

Im just wondering if anyone could explain to me in simple terms what this all means.

I am 34 weeks pregnant and receive contribution based employment and support allowence, £182.80 a fortnight. My husband works 38 hours a week and gets about 15k before tax.
I received the £190 health in pregnancy grant, but was told i couldnt get the £500 sure start grant. Why is this when, if i was on income based employment and support allowence then i would get it, also i would be entitled to free open university course etc and other help with other things, on contribution based i get nothing!
Also child tax credits, do i get these and how much is it if i did get it.
I have used entitledto.com but im still not clear on what it all means. If anyone could help me on this id be very greatful. Thanks

You would not qualify for Income based ESA due to your husband earning as it is means tested.

Tax credits are based on your earnings from last year - entitledto is a good start, just put the details in as if the baby was born yesterday
this will also give you a rough idea

If your income last year is much higher than expected to be lower this year you can also call them after you receive your award to get it based on this years
