Refund to a cancelled debit card

Hi,

I was meant to be going on holiday for a week when the dreaded ash cloud hit. The tour operator we booked with were very co-operative in giving us a refund for a trip (albeit it has taken 3 months to surface) but we have a problem.

The trip was orginally booked on a debit card that was lost (was cancelled/replaced at the time) and now I have a new card.

The travel agency we booked through recieved the refund from the tour operator and put the refund through on this old card.

They let me know that they did this and I promptly emailed back saying that this card was no longer valid (they were aware that the original card was lost) and could they actually put it on the new card details.

They called the their card processor which said it would be held in a processing account and posted to my account within a few days but I have spoken to my bank (Natwest) who have said to go back and speak to the travel agent (who told me to speak to the bank).

I'm at a bit of a loss, it's quite a significant amount of money and I'd hate for it to be lost. I'm mainly concerned about the conflicting messages I seem to be getting.

Should I just be going by the advice of 'it's going to get in your account after they've processed it' or are their any measure I can take to ensure the process runs a bit more smoothly?

Many thanks

We had a refund for easyjet for cancelled flights which where booked with a card that was cancelled. Once we knew refund had been done we left it a few days and rang the CC company and checked they had the money. We then got them to send a cheque for it. Even though card was cancelled they still got the money.

You say it was a debit card, was it only teh card that was cancelled or the account? If bank has said money will still come back it will. I did not believe it was happen but it did .

    Hi,

You will still get the money back as the reference from the old card is still unique to you, and will just get transferred to the related bank account.

I can completely understand your concern that it is going back to the old card, but there shouldn't be an issue with the refund, as the tour operator has to send it back to the same card number to comply with the proceeds of crime act.

Speak to your bank and they should be able to put your mind at rest.

The account is still active, it's just a new debit card.

    cheers

you will have no issue then the old card will still be allocated/referenced to the account in question.

Brilliant, i guess its just a case of misinformed staff at the Natwest branch, but the less said about that the better..

    Many thanks.
