Faulty electric meter
Hi guys and gals, received an electric bill from edf today which was £700, to cut to the chase, after a telephone call to them it turns out that my dual tarriff meter hasn't been recording day units and only night ones. Edf state that it's industry standards for faulty meters to be estimated. Surely, edf have to prove my energy consumption to enforce a bill? Thoughts and ideas please!

Nope.
How do you think they should best decide how many day units you have actually consumed if the meter was faulty?
Or are you hoping that other customers will be forced to pay for the electricity you have used?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi Dale76uk - I'm afaid that with meter failure, Estimating consumption over the failure period is usual
If there is a billing history for at least a year prior to the failure, then a reasonably accurate estimate is easy - You can do your own to check the suppliers bill when you get it
If there is not a full years history, it's more of a problem and the best way is to pay something on account, on the understanding that the charges for the missing period will be adjusted up or down,
based on the billing history for the year forward from the meter being changed
Either way - Do not be BULLIED by phone calls/letters saying "This is our Estimate PAY IT NOW"0
