I meant to come back and thank everyone - DH surprised me with an offer to head to Belfast for Sat on 10th July (I was planning a mid-week jaunt this week or 2 weeks time) as it was too wet to get the gardening we'd planned done.

So I actually got to Lakeland!! And got what I needed there and a few extra "wants" as well :) As well as a nice morning in Belfast city centre.

And we went into Sain in Lisburn on the way home, as it was on the way home. Which was important when it was LASHING rain.

But I have marked this thread to give me the instructions another time when I am off on a jolly for myself!!

Just like to say that Newry also has ICELAND which is beside the carpark at Dunnes in Monaghan st. I find it cheaper than all the others with prices that cannot be matched elsewhere. They stock all premium products as well as their own brand at great prices. Also in that area there is a SAVERS for all pharmacy products with really mega low prices. hope this helps. :j

There's a big Sainsburys on the Mall in Armagh, easy parking too. There's Emersons, a large independent beside it too. A bit closer is J D Hunter & Co. in Markethill the other side of Newry which is as big as a Sainsburys and also an independent.
  • Hi Winged One
Glad to hear you had a fruitful jaunt out and bought lots of goodies.

I also recommend Banbridge which is only a little further up the A1 than Newry but well worth it. I tend to find that Newry is so busy these days with cross border customers that their prices reflect this and are pitched a bit higher than in Banbridge.
The Outlet - From the A1 take the first turn off for Banbridge on your left and follow the directions at the roundabout to cross the fly over to the outlet. There is a M&S, Gap, Paco, NIKE, my teens love Billabong and VANS.
Lidl and Iceland - Again take the first turn off but instead drive "straight ahead" to bring you out at the top of Banbridge on the Newry Road. As the main street comes into view Lidl is on your right and has its own free car park. If you turn right at the roundabout at the top of the town this will lead you around to some car parks and that is where Iceland is located. This road would also lead you around to Tesco.
Tesco - On A1 take second turn off on left at the "Creamery" and this will lead you to a big Tesco with a fuel station (at the moment Tesco are issuing 5p off a litre of fuel vouchers when you pay at the supermarket check out). There is a playpark just opposite if anyone has kids with them and they want a bit of a run around.
M&Co - top of the town - a fab clothes shop with big sizes
Donaghies - fab local sports and shoe shop I always used to buy the kids their Clarks shoes there as I found they were really good at measuring the boys feet.
Downshire Hotel - at the top of the town - Good for a meal - lovely pavlova. Or there is a quaint old fashioned restaurant called the Patrisse which is always busy so its not just me that likes it!
The Windsor Bakery - Some really yummy treats here. There is a shop near Supervalu but if you go through the town and down the hill on the other side the is another Windsor Bakery shop which also has a cafe/coffee shop attached.
Other shops include Boots, Bon Marche, DV8, Poundland, Supervalu and lots of independant shops of various kinds.

I hope this is helpful - I have got a bit carried away and typed more than I meant to! I don't work for any of the firms mentioned. Although I am regularly in Belfast, Lisburn and Newry I do like to support my local independant shops in Banbridge so that we can retain a bit of individuality & character to our towns rather than every High Street only containing the exact same big name chain stores.
