Another Cordyline problem!

As some of you may remember I lost 2 big cordys over winter, but the one at the front is still going strong, well that is until today. Not sure if this is supposed to happen but there's about 4 shoots coming through near the base of the trunk, all the leaves are heading south and the big white flower heads are the only thing actually pointing up - is this normal? Do they sprout randomly out of the trunk?
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!

Yep. Mine grew back from near the base after it was cut down, and it actually looks a lot better!Loving the sunny days!0

Strange, it's in flower though and not damaged in anyway I don't think. Maybe it's on it's way out, I'm glad it's regenerating though unlike the ones that succumbed to the winter!Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0

We've had a diddy cordyline in a pot for a couple of years. It was looking a bit sick last summer so we planted it in the front garden.
Winter took its tole on it and low and behold, we lost it - the top 3 inches of the trunk went black and soggy and 1 by 1 the leaves turned brown and fell off. I pulled the last dozen or so off and left it as a bare trunk, with the intention of digging it out.
Maybe 2 months have passed now and I still haven't got round to digging it out, but it's got a pale green shoot coming out of the trunk, just below soil level.
I'd be interested to know what happens now!0 -
I wish my 2 killed off had come back, sounds like yours is doing it's job and regenerating. Good job you've not dug it out. I'm very surprised the one I thought was OK isn't OK, all it's leaves are practically out now, the flower heads still on top and the shoots coming through the trunk are still coming. Surely it's not died on me cos of the heat?!?!

I've had a cordyline for about 8 years now. It came in a ready made hanging basket and when it got too big I planted it in the garden. It is now about 15 foot tall.
It has survived last winter although at one point I wasn't convinced as it started to look quite sick.
Heynonnynonny,as you have said mine has started to shoot at the bottom but I have taken the shoots rightly or wrongly and I've put them all in a pot, they seem to be surviving ok I did it about three weeks ago.0 -
Found this thread on search.
My Cordy is also shooting from the base though the top is still greenish but not too well. Although the leaves at the top have gone brown, they will not pull off as they did before.
Shoud we chop the trunk off and hope it regenerates as before? Or leave it a bit longer to see what it does?0 -
Hi guys, I have left mine well alone and the green shoots are still coming, seen a few others in the same condition...but why die off in the middle of summer? Am going to leave the shoots to grow but not sure whether or not to chop the trunk down to where the shoots are or not.Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0
