Thanks - sorry to hear about the potential loss of your job :( - wow 34 years. Some people where I work have done over 40. Would it be redundancy then with the potential for a bit of a payout?....

    Morning All,

How gutted am I!! Going to the Trafford Centre later, thought "Hey, I know, I'll print some restaurant vouchers off, treat DD to lunch and do some shopping on the way back with some of the MOC that are on the first page :)" Three print cartridges showing as almost empty so I changed them. The printers telling me that two of the ones I changed still need changing  - but they are full!!

I've tried taking them out and putting them in again (several times) and switching printer off and rebooting PC (computer that is, not Princess Coupon ;)). I even opened the lid and blew in the general direction of the cartridges, saying "that's it sorted then" hoping to fool the printer
(Epson RX500) into thinking I knew what I was doing - but it won't play :(.

    Any suggestions please?

Perranlady - Sorry to hear your news, 34 years is a long time. Try to see it as an opportunity to try something else - I know it can be scary but sometimes it can open the doors you've never really thought about knocking on.

Jeferey - Belated Happy Birthday for yesterday :bdaycake:

Im not actually techy but are these cartridges actually Epsom as if they arent you probably need to take these out and keep them for a later date and insert new Epsom ones. I know they are more expensive but I seem to remember doing this when we had an Epsom printer. I found you will only need to do this now and again as on the whole it will accept the cheaper cartridges.

Have you shaken the cartidges? I had a similar prob a last time I changed mine.I wiped the hole where the ink comes out with a damp cloth in case the ink had dried out, then held it over the hole , so that the ink wouldn't fly out , and gave it a good shake...cusring loudly seemed to help too....using cheap Sainsburys ones and they work fine

Thanks bully, I've just tried wiping the hole and shaking it but it's not worked :(. I'm using Epson-compatible cartridges off the internet and I haven't had any problems in the past. The supplier seems to have changed the packaging, although the cartridges still seem to be the same and one of them works ok.

When you say 'cursing' - to what degree? Did you start off quite subtly and increase the level of cursing over a matter of minutes or did you just go straight into full blown 'hope the neighbours can't hear this' rant-type cursing? :)

I had this problem with epson compatible cartridges from ebay. I ended up having to get alcohol on the end of cotton buds and cleaning out the hole in the printer where the cartridge sits. What you usually find is that it has leaked a little too much and blocked the hole.

Thanks aureol, it sounds a good idea but I think I might wait for DD to come and try that - I'm alright wiping and shaking cartridges but cleaning out the hole in the printer is delving into the realms of 'technical' for me .
Also, I'm a bit worried about my reputation with all the cursing and now the alcohol - it might give people the wrong impression of me ;).
