actually, I fancy some of that myself, so save me a bit while I get my coat
I have to agree! My poor old Mum couldn't bake for toffee and we always had her cakes covered in custard for pud
Any sort of cake goes with custard especially banana!!0 -
Update. Had some with custard, that was a winner. Tried some fried with icing sugar sprinkled on and served with ice cream. Only tasted ok-ish cos we were really hungry.
Tried making banana bread-and-butter pudding with the remainder and it was really awful! Kids wouldn't eat it, neither would dh, and I put a brave face on, pretending it was yummy to try to persuade the kids, but it was terrible. It got consigned to the fridge, me still not giving in and saying ' I will eat some tomorrow when you guys are at school'. No chance, I'm afraid it went in the bin when no-one was looking!
Going to try and make toad-in-the-hole with some veg sausages just begging to be eaten. I say 'try' as I have never made it before, and seem to be awful in the kitchen at the mo, and I am normally pretty good. Anyone else have runs like that when you can't cook to save your life?????????????Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften up, maybe 10-20 seconds.
Pour on custard.

I am imagining something similar to chocolate fudge brownies, where you could slice up you banana cake, add some ice cream and/or cream, toast some nuts, squirt on some chocolate or fudge sauce, sprinkle with fresh strawberries and chocy chips. Better stop there I think!0

Oh, that sounds yummy. Pity it was all used up on the horrible banana bread and butter pudding!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

A thing I had in school was called manchester tart - it was really nice and this recipy can be modified to use leftover cake and banana bread to be equaly tastey.
Lay the cake sliced thin in the bottom of an ovenable tin. spread with a generous layer of Jam. layer with sliced fruit -I've used bananna and apple before now and both are nice, then cover with either custard or rice pudding, sprinkle with cinnamon/brown sugar/desicated coconut, bake for about half an hour and serve hot or cold.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Rosie, - yes, my OH, his fam & our freinds all regularly tell me I'm a very good cook, but unbeknown to most of them (except OH) every so often (hate to admit it, but probably about once a month :-s) I have a few days ( usually 2-3 ) where I seem to be able to mess even usually simple things up. If I'm really honest with myself it's usually down to impatience/unwillingness to properly prepare things at those points.0

Rosie,
I normally love to cook and cook well but sometimes have those annoying days (or few days) where cannot be bothered making effort as nothing seems to work! DH requesting mac cheese for tea tonight and been putting off having that as I know my last two attempts at cheese sauce were ad hoc and not that nice!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Funnily enough, I made mac cheese for OH to take to work as I was having rubbish few days, and I found easy way to do it that he seemed to like. Literally used a wee bit of the cooking water from the macaroni, a spoonful or so of cheese sauce granules and a bit of milk. Splash of cream and a bit of cheese grated in. Gave it a stir and done!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
