Do Lloyds TSB's "Quick Deposit Envelopes" allow you to desposit cash or just cheques?

Options
Hi there!

I have a bit of an emergency on my hands - I gave a friend a large sum of money to deposit in my bank account. I told him to use the deposit request slip and pay it in at the branch. He walked into the branch, put the money (notes and coins) into a "Quick Deposit" envelope with the pay-in slip, and placed it into the Quick Deposit box on the wall.

Can anyone tell me, urgently if at all possible, if Lloyds TSB allows cash to be paid in like this? I thought it was just cheques and I can't check!

Thanks !!!!

  • Yes you can pay cash in.
When did he do this, was it today?
Have you not registered for Internet or telephone banking? Either of these will confirm whether the payment is in your account.

I seem to get a receipt automatically (with Lloyds).
  • Not from a depositpoint you won't.
You can ask for a receipt if you deposit the money in a cashpoint machine.
OP stated his friend went into branch to pay in via Quick deposit

Yes, I'm being thick. I didn't read it properly and assumed it was the cashpoint. But in my defence, it's Friday and I'm going on holiday tomorrow!!

So am I right in assuming that when you put envelope through the quick deposit box theres no way to get a receipt? Prefer to queue and get the added security and piece of mind to be honest if thats the case...
  • Up to you it was put there to stop you having to queue.
More useful for businesses to deposit takings in plastic bags.
Has OP now found out whether money is in his account or has his 'friend' done a runner with his money?

I've never had a problem using them but I wouldnt put a lot of cash in them, don't see a problem with cheques though.
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
