You can get cover for 1-28 days as a seperate policy, done a dummy quote for a 30 year old, secretary, ok stereotype and probably sexist, it came out at £18 for 24 hours, about £28 for 2 days cover, fully comp with a £250 excess, for a mainstream car up to a value of £25,000. As it would depend on age, ocupation and postcode, you would have to get a tailored qute for you SIL. Google short term car insurance or daily insurance.0

I've used daysinure before for a weeks cover.
It worked out at a decent price, though I seem to recall the excess was quite high.0 -
