Camcorder to PC Quality Problems

  • Firewire should just work if the drivers are installed correctly: plug it into the camera, turn it on and Windows should tell you that it's found the camera.

    That's what I hoped, but it didn't.

Not really, mines a Panasonic too.., and I avoided the firewire card in the PC route, cos it's just a faff when compared to an under the telly recorder, and a couple of presses on the remote.

To the OP, what software are you using? Is the firewire card listed as working in control panel, system, hardware, device manager?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

The OP said he was using the Roxio S/W supplied with the camera.
Software - Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 (packaged with Freecom Classic DVD Writer)

My PC has a firewire card fitted and I still had problems with the Sony. The original problem was with the supplied software; however I couldn't get it to work using Nero, MS video maker, Videon.

I agree about the TV with camera being best, but I want to burn DVDs to send to family.

I have tried it with USB streaming on and off. Neither works when using the firewire cable. The manual doesn't say which it should be set to. Perhaps you could confirm so I don't have to keep trying both ways when I try something new.
  • I'm not 100%, but I think the usb streaming may be why the quality is low, and if you are using DV/firewire, it should be off.

Normally you just plug the firewire lead into a DV/firewire device, and it should recognise it and transfer data.

Do you know anyone with an under the TV recorder, to rule out an issue with the camera.
