a good Visa credit card?

Options
Can anyone recommend a Visa credit card?

I want one to use exclusively for online casinos & betting sites. It doesn't need a high limit (a few hundred will do), and the interest rate is irrelevant, as I'll be paying it off in full each month.

I already have a Mastercard, but have heard that Mastercard is not always accepted by sites of this type. I was planning to use my Visa debit card until I recently experienced some fraudulent transactions as a result of using it online, so I've decided to only use credit cards online from now on.

I'm looking for a card company which offers good service & excellent online facilities.

thanks :)

Pretty much any bank that offers a Visa credit card will do, if you are not bothered about interest rates. However, you need to be careful. The majority of credit card issuers are now charging the same interest rates on fees on betting transactions as Cash Advances. The APR's on these are usually around 20% APR. Plus with a cash advance fee of around 2-3%, it could be very expensive.

For casinos and betting sites, most card issuers how treat these as cash advance transactions - this means that on most credit cards you will be charged a transaction fee (mine has just gone up to 3%, minimum £3), as well as a higher rate of interest. You don't get that on debit cards - just something to consider, since it does make using a credit card much more expensive than using a debit card.

Just said pretty much the same thing above you!
  • Thank you for the replies. :)

That's annoying - I knew that RBS & Egg were treating betting transactions as cash advances, but didn't realise most other companies were too. Guess I'll have to look into other options than a Visa card.
  • How about opening a seperate current account with a visa debit card and asking for no overdraft on it then just paying cash into the account to use it. Why do they treat gambling transactions as cash advances, I didn't know they do this as I never use casinos, just seems a bit odd?
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.

If you do like it please hit the thanks button.

I guess it is the same reason as rates on cash advances are so high. There is much more risk to the card issuer if someone bets or takes cash out of the customer getting into trouble paying it back.

Thanks Gordon, that's a good idea. I'm reluctant to use the debit card attached to my main current account online again after my recent hassles with fraudulent activity, so a separate account & card would be a good solution (why didn't I think of that... :o )
