British Gas Homecare

Options
I signed up for homecare around 6-7 weeks ago...

and have my first service on 30/6.

But today my boiler has become faulty... no hot water unless Central heating is on...

Am I covered?

If not (until 1st service) then what have I been paying for for 2 months?

    Unless they specifically told you you were not covered until your boiler had been inspected, then I would assume you should be covered. But then it is BG. They try to get out of anything they can!

    This is from the homecare terms and conditions;

    5.5 First Service

    If your agreement includes a First Service, we will inspect your boiler and/or controls and/or your gas central heating system or gas appliance (whichever is included under the agreement) to make sure they are safe and in good working order. Your British Gas service engineer will fill in a safety inspection checklist to show you what he or she has checked. We will normally carry out this service within 42 days of the beginning of your agreement where possible. However, as we give priority to breakdowns, it can be later if there is a lot of demand for our services especially in colder periods. If the service reveals a problem, we may:
    • tell you what work is needed and what it will cost you for that work to be done;
    • offer you another agreement, which will not include the part(s) of the system causing the problem; or
    • cancel the agreement and refund your money.

    Any pre-existing faults will not be covered, you will most likely be offered a fixed price repair, which i think is around £140 depending on location, or the contract can be cancelled and your money refunded.

    Its possible you could get lucky and the engineer will repair for nothing if it doesnt require ordering parts: ie a synchron motor which is carried as van stock.

    My dad took out Homecare 200. Had an issue with his boiler, BG came out and said that his plate exchanger was blocked and it was not their problem. They offered to fix it for £280 and sell him a water conditioner for another £200. Nice guys.

    Nope - they need to inspect your boiler first and then you are covered. This is what I was advised when I took up cover with them for the first time.

    I think there is also a 30 day waiting period before you can call them out but since you've had the service for longer can't see this being a problem. Although the initial inspection would cause a problem

    They will refund the two months back

    I can understand their reasoning. such blockages are often caused by install/design issues.
    Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
