washing machine problem

Hi, I have a problem with my washing machine and in need of some advice, it seems that it's not using the softener on it's cycle "quick wash" temp 40 and also I find that 90% of the time it just stops with a full load of clean water toward the end and I need to press the start button again for it to kick in to the last part of the cycle of draining and spinning.
I have been constantly cleaning the tray and softener compartment to make sure there is no build up, but at the end of the cycle it still hasn't used any softener, I have also cleaned the top part of the detergent and softener drawer to make sure there is nothing clogged up causing the water to not come through, the make is Beko, I know it's not the best make but is only about a year old.
Any advice would be great.
Oh for the record we live in a very soft water area, so no limescale build up.
