Is it too early????

We have recently booked our wedding for 20 August 2011. We havent really organised anything except for the church yet but I just happened to pop into Monsoon today and saw the most gorgeous wedding dress. I didnt try it on because I told myself that its ridiculously early to be buying a dress but I really like it. I also saw a gorgeous dress that I would love to have my bridesmaids wear (although I havent actually decided on whether I am having bridesmaids or not due to the fact that I cannot decide whether I can afford to buy them a dress or not and would feel cheeky asking them to buy their own). The problem that I have now is that I cant stop thinking about whether to (a) buy the wedding dress, which at £200 is a steal (cannot afford a proper bridal gown) and (b) get my two prospective bridesmaids to try on this dress (which is £85) and possibly buy them one each and ask them to buy their own shoes etc.

Do you think I am going slightly mad because surely its way too early to be contemplating buying my wedding dress etc???

PLUS what would happen if I changed my mind nearer the time and didnt like the dresses???

Has anyone else been in a similar position?

Thanks
xxx

Well this is just my experience but my wedding isn't til sep 2012 and I've already changed my mind 4 times on which dress I want *blushes* But then again I'm a very indesicive person.

If you're pretty good with decissions then go for it :D but if you're like me and change your mind at the drop of a hat then I'd hold off :D

I don't think it's too early to get your dress, as long as your weight is stable! I ordered mine a year before the wedding, actually I think we booked the wedding the week after I'd ordered the dress! Ooops! My friend is getting married next July and ordered her dress about 3 months ago so you wouldn't be the first to be so organised!

With it being a high street dress, if it is The One, get it! They may not have one like it next year and you'll be kicking yourself.

I'd be a little wary of getting the BM's dresses in case they gain/lose weight, get pregnant etc. Maybe if they turn up in the sale at the end of the summer it's meant to be and you should get them then!

I've bought and paid for my dress already and my wedding isnt until June 2011. Its currently in storage so i cant keep peeking at it!

I dont think its too early if its something u really like.
Just as an aside, you could afford a 'proper' bridal dress if you shopped around, bought off the rack or even ebay etc. It can be done!

ive had my dress for 15 months now, and i adore it, but, it was early, and i did have ups and downs of feeling i made the wrong decision, so if you do go for it prepare yourself for feeling like that at some point, and you must not go and look at anything else - seriously - you will cave at some point and its bad!! but just try to remember how much you liked it to begin with. my gut instinct was right, the dress i bought is perfect for my figure etc, and i instantly new it was beautiful. sometimes we just know, even if we doubt later.

one thing i would say though, is go and try it on, and see if you like it once on, and then wait for the sale!!! it should be in july sometime, and if you go in there on the first day you will probably get your size for half price, and the BM dresses too. Also, ebay is flooded with monsoon dresses, usually worn once, so check if there are the ones you want on there.

And just one other thing, dont buy it just because you think it is a good price and you think you cant have a 'proper' dress, as i bought mine in a dress sale for £275, which was half price, and there are other brides on here who got better deals than me. So get it if you do absoloutely adore it and know its the one for you, but not if its because you think its a good price or all you can afford as £200 is still a good budget so monsoon, bhs and debenhams will all have dresses you can afford, and you have plenty of time to find one.

I bought my dress in July 2009 and my wedding is in August 2010. If you think that the dress is the one then go for it! try it and see how you feel in it! I'm glad i got mine early because i got a bargain and it has given me time to slim into it! Its now fits and i love it! yey!

As soon as I booked my venue I wanted to get EVERYTHING. It's easy to get excited when the wheels are set in motion.
A month or so later & I've calmed down.

Personally, I'm trying to resist buying anything too soon (although I still have the option of getting my friend to make my dress).

I've seen a few people saying how they buy one dress, then make the mistake of continuing to look at dresses, then buying another!

Seeing as the dress is in Monsoon, I'd wait for the end of summer sale, especially as there's no rush.
Or be even more MSE & keep an eye on ebay through the summer as people get married then put their dress for sale.

If you know it's the one and are totally head over heels in love with it, not to early. You are excited and why not?? Go try on some frocks!!

Just remember. "Dithering can often disappoint!" I've seen it happen FREQUENTLY!!

I'm not getting married until Sep 2011 and I've bought my wedding dress! It was only the 3rd one I tried on but I loved it, it was exactly what I had in mind and I actually cried when I put it on! I dithered a bit because of the price (£500 in the sale with no details of the designer) and because I also thought it would be too early. But, I tried on some more, they didn't come close in satisfying me, though they may have been grander and by known designers. In the end I got £100 off and mum has it hanging in her wardrobe! I have stopped looking at others now, so that I don't fall out of love with it! I am looking for 3 BM dresses but have no intention of buying them till nearer the time - give my girls time to lose weight if they want to!!

Anyway, the point is, if you love the dress buy it. Maybe waiting for the sale is not a bad idea, but you might not get it then if it is popular and sells out. You can always sell it on if you do find something else.

    Oh, and congratulations! :D
