Cash generally does clear straight away, depending on how/what time of day you paid it in? Did you pay it in over the counter? Or did you put it into one of the pay in slots?

I'm not sure if it's still the same but paying in cheques and cash together, the cash 'gets treated like a cheque' - Natwest is the only bank I've come across who do that!

    Really? That's odd!

Do they get treated differently if you pay them in separately?

Waynee - I'm with Natwest and, if I ever accidentally miss a payment, they DO send me a letter. It usually arrives well after I'm already aware of the fact, though...!

Do you have online banking with Natwest? I use it and check my account regularly if I know I'm hovering on "the edge"!

That reminds me of my bank who send me a letter about 2 weeks after I've transferred funds from NL to UK via internet banking! lol

I sent the money and I did it online, so not sure why they send me the letter. I've told them not to bother but it falls on deaf ears.

I'm going back about 6years Euro so I don't know if things have changed but yeah, if you paid them in seperately then they were treated differently.

I've skimmed through most of the thread and I think the OP is wondering why his crddit file is showing 11 months missed payments? If I have read correctly he missed a payment one month and then went on paying as normal without paying the missed payment. If that is the case then the payment he thought was paying for the current month was actually paying the previous month's arrears. Therefore his account was always one month in arrears until he paid the missing payment.

As to how to fix it, I would continue to write to your bank asking them to amend your credit record. Make the point that at no point did they contact you to clear the arrears. It could be as someone said that they might not make contact until you are 2 or 3 months in arrears which you never were. You could argue that that is a failure of their protocol's. If they refuse you could then make a complaint to the FOS. You could even phone them now to see where they might stand on the matter.

If none of the above works, then as a last resort you could always try to put a notice of correction on your credit report outlining why these arrears occurred.

As a side note, I do think people are being overly harsh. The guy sounds like he is self-employed? I know with my business and the current climate things are hard and occasionally the odd thing might get overlooked. Berating him for missing something isn't in the spirit of these boards in my opinion.

I haven't berated him. But the OP keeps wanting to place the blame with the bank for not picking up his slack, and it's not their job to do so. It's his.

The alternative view would be that if someone was always one month behind, should they not write and ask for that money or offer some kind of payment plan to catch up. If someone doesn't know they are behind they can't fix it.
I can see your point of view that he should have noticed a DD did not come out or he had more moeny than he thought but then if he was busy it is something that could be missed.

Yes of course. But overlooking something for a day, a week or even a month is understandable. Overlooking something for 11 months and then getting angry at the bank for doing the same thing is just silly.

Every argument for why didn't the bank do this, that or the other can equally be asked of the OP. They are his finances after all.

The best he can hope for is getting some of the marks on his file removed (not all) as a gesture of good will from the banks. As I understand it, they have no obligation to do so, but it's worth trying.
