Missed loan payment

Hi,
I could really do with some advice on this.

In august 2008 i missed a loan payment on my natwest loan (£201) and i never recieved a letter from natwest saying i had missed the payment. In jan 2009 natwest randomly took the missed payment, even though 2 days after the payment was missed in aug 2008 there was enough funds to take the missed payment.
This resulted in me having 6 late payments on my credit report.

Then in july 2009 i missed another payment and never recieved any letter saying i had missed the payment, and they still had not taken the missed payment up untill today when i instructed them to take the payment, again there was enough funds to take the payment 2 days after the date the payment should of come out and everyday since then.
Again this has resulted in 11 late payments on my credit report, its only come to light because i joined a credit checking web site.

My question is should the bank inform me i have missed a payment?.
Can they just leave it and keep putting late payment marks on my credit report?.

Its really anoying because everytime i go into the bank to pay cheques in ( 2-3 times a week) i am asked do you want this or that like trying to sell me services, or you have high ballance do you want to put some in your savings account, they never say you have high ballance do you want to pay the payment you missed 11 months ago.
Thing is i cant work out why they randomly took the payment in jan 09 for the missed payment in august 08. Why could they not randomly take it like a few days later after missing the payment.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this

Thank You
Wayne

  • So on these two occasions I assume they have taken 2 payments (£402) on those months, otherwise how would you know that they are the missed payments? Are they wriritng to you to say that they have recovered the money? In the months in between are they just taking the money as normal?

I suggest that you check that they have all your correct contact details and then speak to them about this. Only they can tell you exactly why.

Thank you for your reply clairbear1000.

No they didnt take £402, the first time i missed a payment of £201 was in 4th august 2008 and they never bothered to contact me, they was then still taking the monthly payments as normall but didnt take the missed payment untill 18th Jan 2009 without making any contact at all about that i had missed a payment and they was going to take the missed payment they just took the payment at random.

Then in 4th july 2009 i missed a payment, they never contacted me at all to say i missed a payment, the first i knew i had missed it was when i joined a credit scoring website last week to check my score, this is when i see it said on each month since july 2009 i have a late payment.
The payments since july 2009 have all been payed as normall.
Today i told them to take the missed payment from July 2009, but now my credit score is ruined because they have not made any contact to take the payment in 11 months so each month i have been marked as a late payment.

I'm confused as to how 2 missed payments in 09 led to 6 missed payments on your credit file?

Hi immoral_angeluk, thanks for your reply.

I am confussed about it too, when i look on my credit file it shows 1 late payment each month since the date the payment was missed.

I would of thought that it would only show a missed payment once, but it seems because the payment had not been payed the late payment shows every month untill its payed.

Really wished the bank had contacted me to say i missed a payment.
Surley the bank should contact you if you miss a payment? is it there job to? there saying it isnt and its my fault its gone 11 months without the payment being made, like i say i payed it now and i would of done 11 months ago if they had told me the direct debit didnt come out

It is your job to check your bank statements. assuming you did not have funds on the due date, this is entirely your own fault.

The missed payment was rectified the following month by the normal payment, but the arrears remained.

Still, OP must be compensated for their ignorance

So should the bank of contacted me or is it my fault? a simple letter or call or when i go into the bank instead of trying to sell me somthing just say did you know you missed a payment on your loan.
What i dont get is the first time i missed a payment they took the missed payment 6 months later, but this time then never took it and let it go 11 months.

it says this on the natwest website.

Treating you fairly when you cannot pay your loan
If you are having trouble paying your loan, we will treat you fairly. We will:
    • contact you as soon as possible to discuss your problem; <
(does that mean they will contact you if you miss a payment?)
    • talk to agencies who give advice (for example, Citizens’ Advice) and are acting on your behalf if you want us to;
    • give you a reasonable time to pay back the debt; and
    • only take further action, if we cannot solve the problem with you.

If you're in trouble then the onus is on you to contact the bank. The bank aren't mind readers and will expect you to keep them in the loop if you're having difficulty.
