washing machine question

Hi all,

I have just had a new Hotpoint washing machine installed and have a couple of questions, will be grateful for your replies!

1. This is a cold fill only. How can I check whether it is actually heating the water? In my old machine(also a coldfill only), I could put my hand inside the detergent tray when it filled up water and feel the hot water going in. However, I only feel cold water through the detergent tray in the hotpoint. Does hotpoint heat the water in the drum? Is there any way to test it?

2. It seems that the machine isnt taking sufficient water. I washed a duvet cover yesterday night and it barely soaked in water in the drum. No error codes on the machine and the cycle completed fine. In the old machine, the water used to completely drown the duvet cover.

Sounds normal to me. WMs have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. Just because the water going through your detergent tray isn't warm, doesn't mean it isn't warming up in the drum.

Many detergents are now designed to work at cold temperatures.

In terms of 'not filling up', this semms correct as well. Machines are designed to take just the amount of water needed, not fill the whole drum. Filling the whole drum is not eco friendly as it will use more electricity to heat up etc.

i can see the tray clogging up soon with detergnt because of cold water - it used to do that in the old machine despite the warm water coming in, so can only imagine it will be more often now.

didnt know that water can actually heat in the drum itself!
